Test Exchange

12 testers, 14 days. Find them here, free.

New Google Play developer accounts can't publish until 12 people have tested the app for 14 days in a row. Here, makers test each other's apps so everyone gets through.

We never ask for or show anyone's Gmail address. You join each test through Google's own pages.

12 × 14

Google wants 12 testers for 14 days in a row. Each square is one of them.

How it works

  1. Post your test

Add your app's Google Group and opt-in link. There's no email list to manage.

  2. Test a few apps yourself

Makers who test for others are shown first, so the more you help, the faster you get testers.

  3. Keep going for 14 days

Open the apps you're testing now and then and tap “I opened it today”. Google checks that testers really use the app.

Apps looking for testers

No tests are open right now. Post yours and others will find it.

Find testers for my app

Google Play's testing rule, in plain words

It applies to personal developer accounts created after 13 November 2023. Organisation accounts don't have to do it.

At least 12 testers must stay opted in to your closed test for at least 14 days in a row. If someone leaves and you drop below 12, the 14 days start again.

Opting in isn't enough on its own. Google looks at whether testers actually used the app, and when you apply for production it asks how you found testers and what they told you.

Aim for 15 or more testers, so one dropout doesn't reset your clock.

Set up your closed test in Play Console

  1. Create a Google Group at groups.google.com and set “Who can join” to “Anyone on the web”.
  2. In Play Console, open Test and release → Closed testing, create a track, and add the group's email address as your testers.
  3. Upload a build to that track and send it for review.
  4. Copy the opt-in link Play shows you (it looks like play.google.com/apps/testing/your.package) and post your test here.
